History of the Maserati Biturbo
The Maserati Biturbo was brought to market in 1981 as a design intended to be more affordable in comparison to the Bora and Khamsin that were produced under Citroen. The company now under the ownership of Alejandro de Tomaso wanted to bring the prestige of the Maserati name to a wider audience with a more affordable model. The cars were powered with 2-litre V6 engines with the name implied twin turbochargers. The idea initially paid off with sales of around 40,000 units. Sales fell in subsequent years as Biturbo faced issues down the line and gained a reputation for poor quality and carburettor issues that were later resolved with fuel injection models. De Tomaso later sold the marque to Fiat, pitting it alongside Ferrari. The car has faced a slight reprisal in recent years as a powerful affordable classic.
